Omg! A part of the Sun broke off?

Omg! A part of the Sun broke off? Whattttt? Ok guys, everyone calm down. Let’s talk about what is a solar filament?

Solar filaments are clouds of ionized gas above the solar surface squeezed between magnetic regions of opposite polarity.

Filaments are most common around the peak of the sunspot cycle (called solar max) when the Sun's magnetic field is very active and explosive solar storms are more frequent. Filaments are actually the same feature as another solar phenomenon

So are we all going to die? No, this a natural phenomenon that happens. It means we are getting closer to the next solar cycle and solar max which means the Sun will flip its magnetic poles like it has done for thousands of years, every 11 years. So no we aren’t going to die and nothing unusual is going on with our Sun.

This is exactly what I mean by twisting words and turning everything apocalyptic. They took something so natural and turned it into a big thing. This is basic helio-seismology 101. Solar filaments. It’s like tornados but fire tornados on the Sun. That’s all it is guys. It’s really that simple.
