This theater was owned by the Roman and Rojas families, The first movie shown here was “How The West Was Won” in 1964. It was at that time the most luxurious theater, it was the first building in the Philippines to have an escalator and the first cinema to have carpet. During its time it was the biggest wide screen theater in the world, which was like the IMAX of its day back in the 1960’s. Arguably, the most renowned of the Recto theaters can be found a few steps away right at the corner of Quezon Boulevard.

Unfortunately the Super Cinerama burned down in 1988 due to faulty electrical wirings. Showing then was the Ruel Vernal starrer “Juan Tapak” in 1978. Today, the Cinerama’s legacy lives on in a way with the presence of a mall of retailer Isetann which has dubbed it ‘Cinerama Mall’ and contains a cinema.
